The size and design of this briefcase are great for commute and travel, before the padded bag was available I had the non-padded version.The quality concerns I have are related to the shoulder strap implementation on both bags. On the first bag, carrying a normal-size laptop plus power cord and light reading material, the stitching of one of the loop gussets - to which the strap clips - came apart and separated from the bag after only 1-2 years use. On the new padded bag, carrying a netbook plus adapter and light reading material, the rivets holding the strap-end loop around the clip broke off after less than 1 month of use, this resulted in the bag falling off my shoulder and hitting the ground, damaging my netbook. The leather and canvas used for these bags is really durable and makes for a great briefcase. But the design of the shoulder strap and how it attaches to the bag is very sub-standard, far below... Very pricey though...but well worth price in long run. I have since started carrying a net-book in the Filson medium field bag. The padding is not so thick as to be bulky yet not so thin that you worry about it doing it's job. The front full length accessory pocket has spots for pens, blank discs, business cards, an accessory hard drive and an external disc drive-all in that front pocket! In between it and the main compartment is a full length open pocket for magazines and newspapers I suppose. In the main compartment has three sections for files and such and then the section for the laptop.
